India’s 70th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Samvedna Care Foundation’s Senior Centre in Gurgaon. Members and staff were dressed in national flag colours and it was a pleasant mix of orange, white and green signifying peace, valour and prosperity. Members shared their most memorable independence day from their past. While some of them had painful memories of the partition there were others who recalled the excitement of the day, they had experienced as young citizens of a new India in 1947. It was interesting to note that many of our members were born post-independence !
The day started with a bhajan by one of our members, Mr. Sharma, a retired music lecturer. Other members shared poetry and speeches to mark the occasion. We then conducted a quiz on Independence day , the two teams contested very competitively and we ended up with a tie-breaker question. Samvedna staff then led the participants to sing patriotic songs along with them. Refreshments and tea, coffee were served in the end for all participants.
