Samvedna Care participated in an ageing exposition organized by Vision India in the month of September. The exposition was a two day event where various organizations got together and show cased their services and products for seniors.
Samvedna Care conducted a talk on Healthy Ageing and Dementia Awareness for the participants. The emphasis of the healthy ageing talk was to keep oneself engaged both socially and mentally in various activities. The session was interactive and we conducted a quiz, karaoke singing, chair dance and various mind stimulation activities for the seniors.
The discussions centered around how to prepare for old age and manage a healthy lifestyle independently without too many expectations from the children. Everyone stressed upon the fact that Day Activity Centres and Old Age Homes should be welcomed as enablers for leading an independent and engaged life rather than as a social stigma.
Longevity is increasing worldwide due to better medical facilities, nutrition and immunization. The average lifespan of an Indian has increased by 5 years and is now between 68 – 70 years of age. Senior Citizens should now prepare themselves to live a Third Inning, after the age of 70.
