World’s Alzheimer’s month is celebrated all over the world in the month of September to raise awareness regarding Dementia. Samvedna Care Foundation conducted a series of awareness drives to make people aware regarding dementia and its risk factors. The theme for this year was “LIVE ACTIVE LIVE HEALTHY: PREVENT DEMENTIA”.
Panel Discussion
In context to the same, a panel discussion was held on World Alzheimer’s Day, 21st September with distinguished panelists Dr. Sriniwas Thakur(Geriatrician), Dr. Garima Handa, Fellow & Treasurer (Geriatric Society of India) and Prof. Sujata Sriram, School of Human Ecology, TISS(Mumbai). Our Co-Founder, Dr. Jayashree Dasgupta, moderated the session. The discussion highlighted the role of medication in dementia, the necessity of nutrients for healthy aging, the importance of caregiving, and risk factors of dementia.
There was an insightful discussion on how helping elderly to maintain independence and allowing them to have a safe space can add to their general well-being. The panelists debated extensively on the role of gender in the process of caregiving. The session was interactive and was concluded with the discussion of how all the factors like physiological, psychological and social factors can impact the cognitive health of the elderly.
Online Health Screening
On the 25th of September, an online memory screening camp was conducted to reach out to the elderly with any problems like cognitive impairment, physical ailments, and depression. There was a varied group of participants with a wide range of difficulties. The participants were also recommended to physicians, psychologists, and psychiatrists if required.
Dementia is a topic of high significance which is often confused as a normal part of aging. Samvedna Care educates people regarding the heightened need for geriatric caregiving and spreads awareness about cognitive impairment among senior citizens.
